Ballard’s Experience
The scalable 200kW FCwave™ module is the first commercially available fuel cell solution, launched on Norwegian operator Norled’s MF Hydra ferry in early 2023.
With certifications from DNV, Lloyd’s Register and ABS, many of the major barriers for adoption have been removed by ensuring one-time design approval and simplified integration planning. FCwave is a true plug-and-play solution, providing an optimal zero-emission replacement for conventional combustion engines on board ships. It is a high power, adaptable module in a hybrid electric system that incorporates fuel cells working together with batteries to provide efficient, zero-emission power.
