Ballard designs and manufactures fully-integrated FCvelocity®-HD6 fuel cell modules delivering 75 kW or 150 kW of power for use in the bus market. Ballard’s leading-edge fuel cell technology combined with our customer’s advanced hybrid bus system designs have demonstrated improved vehicle performance, durability and lower cost. All of which has created a path to commercialization for the fuel cell hybrid bus.
Ballard’s sixth generation FCvelocity®-HD6 modules power the fuel cell bus fleet operated by BC Transit in Whistler, British Columbia, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 2,000 tonnes per year. The BC Transit fleet of 20 fuel cell buses is the largest in the world.

Ballard and its partners are demonstrating through volume deployments in North America, Western Europe, and South America, that fuel cell hybrid buses are following a viable path toward becoming a cost-competitive commercial alternative to diesel and diesel hybrids in the transit bus market.
