Demonstration Program

Ballard fuel cells demonstrate a wide range of productivity and reliability benefits over incumbent lead-acid battery technology. Currently our lead customer*, Plug Power, continues to gain market traction with some of North America’s largest warehouse, distribution and manufacturing facilities.

In December 2009, Plug Power announced that Central Grocers, Inc. has purchased 220 GenDrive™ fuel cell units to power the entire lift tuck fleet at their new distribution center. The center is currently under construction in Joliet, Illinois, and is expected to be operational by the end of the first quarter of 2009.
