The FCvelocity family of products, designed for motive power generation, includes fuel cell products with the Power to Change productivity in material handling - key in an industry where productivity is a vital driver of profitability and every efficiency gain positively impacts the bottom line.
Ballard’s FCvelocity fuel cell technology is at the heart of solutions that offer a wide range of compelling advantages over lead acid batteries for the material handling market. As a result, warehouse and distribution centre operators are looking to adopt industrial vehicle technologies that move goods in and out of their facilities with greater efficiency.
Ballard’s FCvelocity-9SSL fuel cell product is designed to meet the demanding requirements of the material handling end user. A derivative of our automotive fuel cell technology, the FCvelocity-9SSL offers long life, excellent reliability and ease of integration.
Currently our lead channel partner, Plug Power, continues to gain market traction with some of North America's largest warehouse, distribution and manufacturing facilities, including Central Grocers, Wal-Mart and Bridgestone/Firestone North American Tire.
A fuel cell power solution utilizing Ballard's FCvelocity-9SSL offers the following advantages:
run times of up to three times those of lead acid batteries
constant power throughout each shift, so there is no loss in vehicle performance
no need to change power source mid-shift and no resulting vehicle or operator downtime
no need to store extra fuel cell power units - frees up valuable floor space
rapid (1-3 minute) refuelling in comparison to limited charge capabilities of lead acid batteries
Ballard is also working with Exide Technologies, a major global manufacturer of lead-acid batteries, to develop an on-board hybrid hydrogen fuel cell and lead-acid battery energy system for the forklift truck market. Ballard’s FCvelocity-1020ACS fuel cell product will be used to provide on-board recharging capability for Exide’s ELEMENT™ valve regulated lead-acid batteries.
